It’s been a surreal and unsettling week starting with the winds over the weekend then the fires…the wind felt almost like a premonition of terrible things to come. And they came. Talkeetna has felt like an island, only partly isolated from the fire destruction south of us by our physical distance. Yet with so many of our community members being immediately affected it’s been a challenge to not be distracted, worried, fearful and sad. Our part is to keep plugging along, answering phones, assisting guests – the cancelled reservations, the last minute need for rooms – and just plain keep busy so we don’t get too wrapped up in matters we don’t – for the moment – have any control over.
Today (Wednesday) the train is running again, the Princess buses are making their usual shuttle runs and Sunshine Transit plans to run it’s Spur Road route. To the best of my knowledge at this time. There’s still a calendar full of Talkeetna activities and here it is:
