Granny lived for quite a spell amongst the Gravenstein apple orchards of Northern California and came up with a version of apple butter that met her own approval.  The roadhouse apple butter follows her recipe – with the exception of picking the apples ourselves.

We use a high quality unsweetened applesauce and cook it down with sugar and Granny’s combination of just the right spices.  Smear it on toast or – like what she packed in our lunches – treat yourself to a peanut butter and apple butter sandwich!
