We think Talkeetna is not only a great base camp from which to explore both south side Denali State Park but also the historic mining district of Petersville to the west and the Nancy Lakes and Hatcher Pass areas to the south and east. We are also a great destination for combination leisure/learning vacations. One can learn to fly with Above Alaska Aviation, take a craft class through Alaska Folk School , learn mountaineering skills with Alaska Mountaineering School , keep up with one's fitness routine at Studio Z Yoga or, during the months when school in session, join evening basketball, volleyball or take another evening course offered through our Community Schools Program at the Talkeetna Elementary School. Folks taking a class while in Talkeetna are extended a 10% discount on their room stay... no matter what season! Here are some handy links to help you plan your time with us. For specific Talkeetna activity information and a full business directory check out our Chamber's website.
Sport fishing in Talkeetna rivers and lakes is some of the finest in Alaska and the world. In the summer, the Alaska Railroad provides daily service to Talkeetna from Anchorage. Once here, you’re a short distance from the gold mining country in one of the many glacier fed rivers that border Talkeetna. The other outdoor adventure Denali National Park has to offer is unparalleled: Large mammals such as moose and bear populate the park and are high on every visitor's list of things to see.
