November 21, 7:30 Hangar Door Cinema continues its promotion of cross-cultural understanding through cinema with the screening of Opera Jawa, an Indonesian film in the Global Lens 2008 series. This film tells the story of a potter's wife in the lush interior of Java who is seduced into a tragic love triangle. All films at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar and presented with English subtitles. Tickets at the door beginning at 7pm
Roadhouse Thanksgiving Family-Style Supper...
November 27 The Roadhouse will be hosting its annual Thanksgiving Family-Style supper beginning at 2pm. For those combining an overnight stay we will be offering the Late Night Turkey Sandwich Spread and a family-style breakfast the next morning as part of the Thanksgiving Package. November 29, 7:30pm Hangar Door Cinema presents Luxury Car, a Chinese film in the Global Lens 2008 series. This film tells the story of a man's travels to the city to visit his daughter - a karaoke bar escort - hoping to fulfill his wife's last wishes for finding their missing son. Film shows at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar and has English subtitles. Ticket at the door beginning at 7pm.
Calling All Single Women!
Bachelor Weekend kicks-off this year with our annual Motorized Parade of Lights on Friday, December 5. On December 6 the games begin at High Noon with the Wilderness Woman Contest in Downtown Talkeetna. A Chili Contest at the Fairview will keep participants and spectators warm and fed. The Bachelor Auction and Ball are now both at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Of course, we will open the Roadhouse back up at Midnight for our annual All Night Breakfast...don't miss one of the funnest weekends of the whole winter!
Winterfest Schedule
The entire month of December is referred to as Winterfest here in Talkeetna. The Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce encourages its members to hold events to celebrate the winter season. To find out what's going on in all of Talkeetna just zip over to their website!

December 3, 7pm Slide Show here at the Roadhouse by local ladies Laura Wright and Wendy Battino. They skijored from Skwentna to Ruby last winter and have images and stories to share about the adventure. Great family night!
December 5 Motorized Parade of Lights Spectator Party. The Roadhouse is a warm and cozy spot from which to watch the Parade go by not only once, but twice! We will have cookies, spiced wine and hot chocolate. The High School steel drum band will be here also!
December 6-7 All Night Breakfast After you've bought your Bachelor and enjoyed the festivities of the Bachelor Ball, come on over to the Roadhouse from Midnight clear on 'til 2pm on Sunday for breakfast...trust us, you'll feel much better if you do!
December 7, 8pm KTNA Concert featuring Dan Bern and Marshall Crenshaw, two iconic singer/songwriters known for dynamic live performances. December 11-13; 18-20; 26-27 Home for the Hostilities...a Steaming Pile of Christmas Cheer Denali Drama presents another improv comedy production by Nick Condon, the producer of last year's Flanagan's Wake. This show has fun with all the things we love and love to hate about the holidays. December 11 Chamber of Commerce General Membership Meeting This is the Chamber's holiday meeting with some music, spiced wine and eggnog...gift exchange is optional. Social at 7pm and meeting begins at 7:30. United Way will speak to the membership about the ways the community can Live United and how the United Way helps a handful of local organizations already.
December 12, 2008, 7pm Jessica Stevens Foundation will introduce itself to the community by holding a “Celebration of Giving” event at Whole Wheat Radio Wheat Palace on Birch Creek Boulevard. Please contact Chris Mannix for more information at: cmannix@mtaonline.net or 733-2427.
December 13, 4-7pm. Second Saturday Art Show & Reception at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. This month's show features the work of local youth, Teslin Matthews.
December 14, 1pm-4pm Kids Cookie Decorating After families have been over to see Santa and his dog team at Tanner's across the street, they are invited to the Roadhouse to decorate cookies to either eat on the spot, or save for Santa. There is a suggested $3 donation per one dozen sugar cookies. This is a great event for the entire family!
December 14, 4pm Hangar Door Cinema wraps up its screenings of films in the Global Lens 2008 series with All for Free, a film from Croatia. Personal tragedy leads a young man to buy a mobile refreshment truck and embark on a darkly humorous and quixotic journey across post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina. Film screens at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar with english subtitles and tickets at the door beginning at 7pm.
December 16 Great Annual Bake-n-Take Cookie Exchange Begginning at 3pm you are invited to roll up your sleeves, don an apron and step into the bakery for a marathon of cookie making madness. Participants are encouraged to bring a couple dozen cookies already made and recipies for cookies to make throughout the afternoon. At the end of the evening all cookies will be gathered on the big table and we'll all be able to assemble gift cookie tins to promptly mail off to friends and families (won't they be impressed!). Suggested $10 donation covers ingredients and tins as well as a soup-n-bread light supper.
December 16, 7pm Su Valley High School's Chamber Music Ensemble will perform at the Talkeetna Roadhouse. From rock and roll tunes to folk music, traditional chamber music to holiday pieces, this intimate setting will focus all eyes and ears to the sounds of the season!
December 21, 1pm Recital at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. It is a double header marquee with Deborah Windham's Piano Studio students as well as the Music Academy's Rhythm 'n Red Shoes Orchestra. You won't have a hard time getting into the holiday spirit after this show!
December 22, 7pm Festival of Lights Readers Theatre This annual community event is a non-denominational celebration of the holiday season with music, stories, carols refreshments and more. Cans of food are accepted for the food bank. Free - at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar.
December 31 New Year's Eve Family-style Supper What better way to begin a festive evening in Talkeetna than our 8pm hearty Roadhouse supper? Reservations are required. Folks may book room and supper or just the supper...or just the room!
January 1 Recovery Breakfast The Roadhouse will be open Thursday, January 1, serving breakfast from 9am - 1pm, because a we think a Roadhouse breakfast is simply the best way to start a new year!
3-Day Weekend Alert!
With Martin Luther King, Jr Day on Monday, January 19, many of you in the Anchorage area might want to consider a weekend trip on the train to Talkeetna! The Roadhouse is just a two block walk or ski from the downtown train stop. The Alaska Railroad, gets up here on Saturday around noon and leaves Sunday around 4:30. After a fun day and a half here in Talkeetna, you can get a nice supper on the train on your worry-free ride home... and still have all day Monday to catch up on laundry and housecleaning!
