In the old days the Talkeetna Roadhouse served the community by hauling out goods via horse and carriage to miners and trappers in the nearby hills. Now modern day adventurers, local residents and visitors alike, come to us for huge home-cooked breakfasts, lively conversation, strong coffee, gigantic cinnamon rolls, hand rolled bagels, hearty soups, fresh breads, pies, cakes, cookies and a healthy dose of frontier hospitality. Our 1902 Sourdough Hotcakes are bigger than the plates on which we serve them and the Roadhouse Standard (scrambled eggs, home fries, extra thick peppered bacon, honey whole wheat toast, juice and bottomless coffee/tea) is all you need for a full day of Talkeetna adventure. If you do get hungry later there's always Granny's Chocolate Potato Cake, homemade apple pie, rhubarb pie, BluBarb (yes, blueberry and rhubarb) pie, gooey cream cheese brownies, tender gingersnaps... well, we don't want to make you too hungry just yet!
All the seating at the Roadhouse is family-style, meaning that you might meet someone who's already been "up the trail" and can share their experience and give advice; or maybe you'll meet a climber who's just back from elevation 20,320 ft. and can tell you all about the view "from the top", or perhaps you'll meet a local who can tell you just where that special fishing spot is. Few people ever go away hungry or a stranger at the Talkeetna Roadhouse!
The slower pace of winter enables us to accommodate groups for special private meals, either breakfasts, lunches or suppers. We caneven help arrange for local speakers or slide show presentations to accompany or follow the meal.
